Visiting Meemaw and Papa

During Josh's break for the summer (3 whole weeks!) we decided to go visit Josh's family in Ohio. So we packed up the kids and drove the 8 hours to Xenia, Ohio. We had a fun week with his family, playing in the pool, visiting Amish country, and oh yeah, getting into a car accident. Josh's parents had a wonderful time spoiling their grandkids, taking them to the fair and having slumber parties without mom and dad. Josh and I were able to spend the night in a hotel and go to a drive in movie. The girls got to experience Young's Dairy, eating plenty of ice animals. We had a great visit and look forward to our trip to Ohio!

Out the door

Hey all, I just thought since I had a little time on my hands I'd post a couple pics of the girls from yesterday. I couldn't resist, since Makayla was sporting the most fabulous hat ever! Ok, truth be told, we tried to get her to take off that ridiculous looking helmet, but you know...kids. Gotta love them!

Quick Caroline Update

I just wanted to spread the word that Caroline's checkup went well! The Doctor was a little concerned about her weight at her 15 month check-up. We spent 3 weeks calorie loading and went back for a weigh-in yesterday. Caroline had gained about 3 pounds! That was wonderful and it put her back on a normal growth curve. We are very thankful! So now that we know she can gain weight, we can continue with life as normal. We're thankful the doctors are cautious, but even more thankful that Caroline is the beautiful healthy baby we know she is!

A Trip Back in Time

While Josh was busy studying for his exams a few weeks ago, I was such a good wife and got the girls out of his hair. Caroline, Makayla and I took a trip back in time to Terre Conner's house in Rockford, NC. Terre rebuilt an 18oo's house almost with her own bare hands. She made much of the furniture in her house or found authentic 1800's furniture
It's such a real treat to see and experience.

Makayla and Caroline got to try their hand at being real country girls. They went around barefoot, fed a horse an apple, and swung on a wagon wheel swing. Terre's house not only includes the main house, but also a law office that has no running water, which means, no potty. We did not stay in the law office. Terre told me that when they bought the house, they had to redo the whole thing, so they stayed in the law office. Terre had to cut out a window in the small building, about as big as the girls bedroom now. The initial plan was to stay there for 6 months. They ended up living there for three and a half years, using a chamber pot and cooking in a microwave and a fire pit outside.
Of course the best part of the house is the front porch. We spent so much time out there just letting the girls play and enjoying some down time (giving the girls a break from the antiques inside)! The girls loved rocking and Terre and I loved talking. One night we stayed out talking with friends until 3 am. We took the opportunity to snag some cute pictures of Makayla. Of course, you can tell why we didn't take more pictures of Caroline :)
